Giving Tuesday Fundraiser 2019
There are many great stories in St. Francis Advocates, and this is just one of those. It is about someone we support in Lambton County. He lives with us and we support him in his home. He has faced many challenges in his life and struggles a bit with communicating verbally, moving around, and a few other things. He is warm, friendly and has an incredible sense of humour. He recently spent some time in hospital after a bad fall, and the nurses will not soon forget him. He loved flirting with the nurses, and all the attention he received. He also loves going on vacation, something he doesn’t get to do often enough. Now, it is even more challenging for him to go anywhere. The amount of coordination for his needs that are required for an adventure like going on a holiday is enormous and challenging.
In addition, after his trip to the hospital, he needs a very special chair to help him get around, even just in his local community. St. Francis Advocates, and the people we support, often have to rely on the generosity of our donors to help us provide these kinds of accommodations.
Everyone we support is important to us, to their family and their community. This #GivingTuesdayCA, we are launching a social media campaign to raise awareness, to raise money, and to advocate for people supported with Autism and Developmental Disabilities. We are looking to our families, friends, and communities in supporting our efforts to help the people in our care live meaningful lives in new and wonderful ways; for people like this man.
GivingTuesday is a global movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” it’s a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for favourite causes. In the same way that retailers take part in Black Friday, the giving community comes together for GivingTuesday.
Won’t you please help us out by donating on or before this Giving Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019? Every dollar will go directly to providing community opportunities, assistive devices, and accessible accommodations to a home where we support people who are in need.
Here is how you can help!!
